About Us

Who We Are

We are the band known as Gay Bum and we do pretty much whatever we want to do. Normally this is playing music, but sometimes it is drinking, feasting and adventuring; most the time, it is all of these things. We comprise of two cheeks; vocalist Edde Gamester and guitar-player Michael Pumo.  We are different, but not by design; we simply play in a way we love and it happens to be unlike anything else we’ve seen.  We don’t really have a genre; not because we are progressive, but because we prefer to play a variety of styles of music. We are not cool, we are not trendy and we are not fashionable.  We claim neither to be talented nor funny; we play our style of music because we love doing so – not to make a statement, not to raise awareness of a cause and not because we think music is the most important thing in the world.  For this reason we are invincible and will remain this way for as long as we enjoy playing music.

Our name tends to cause problems for us, but for no reason we can discern.  There is nothing insulting, degrading or vulgar about the name Gay Bum – it is a combination of words to which people react in a fascinating variety of ways.  There is a genuine story behind the name, which is demeaning to nobody; any negative connotations taken from our name are hence inferences rather than implications and we accept no responsibly whatsoever if anybody chooses to be insulted by it.  The same goes for our lyrics; grow up and learn not to take yourself so seriously.

What We Do

We live together and write songs based around our experiences; then we play them for other people in the hope that they might enjoy them and catch our drift.  Since there are already a billion bands writing songs about the same old crap, we prefer to play songs about things we still find interesting.  Having a broad and eclectic music taste, including the limitless possibilities of jazz; Pumo likes to play around with his music, making it often interesting and alternative, but yet catchy and lyrically-inspiring.  Realising he is nothing more than a singer in a band, Edde struggles to take himself or his lyrics very seriously – meaning most his songs are fantastical romps through his own thoughts, rather than clichéd takes on worn-out subject.

Our general attitude and approach to music mean we like to have as much fun as possible when we play.  For this reason we tend to drink a lot and inject as much energy as possible into our live performances.

Our Master Plan

We love playing music and we want to continue to do so far as long as possible.  However, our music works and feels best when we can feed off the energy of large crowds and hence we want to spread our music to as many people as possible, in the hope that they will come along to our gigs and join in the fun.  We plan to do this by assaulting the world on all fronts.
